She might have made a calculated decision.
I don't know what penalty she might get if found guilty of wasting Police time, but she may have decided it's worth it for the considerable sums of money she will make for getting her baps out in various papers/mags with her enhanced 'fame'.
As well as the inevitable reality show appearances/product endorsements etc..

If it is a hoax how did they imagine this would play out apart from either the Pole (Mr Hammer & Pickle) being arrested for kidnapping or him & Miss Surrey Tits 2017 being done for wasting police time?

This is a "heads you win, tails you win" story for the media - they're going to get more air-time/column inches and therefore ratings/advertising sales out of it either way (genuine or hoax).
Can't blame her or her agent for playing a fucked system, if that's what it is.
